Beautiful boxes enhance beautiful products

25 February 2010

US company Knoll Packaging was at the PCD exhibition and conference in Paris to showcase its unusual skills at creating technically difficult, elegant boxes for the cosmetics and perfumery sector of the market.

Jeremy Cohen, president and CEO of the company explained that he would be focusing on the European market, where he feels there is great potential for his elaborate cartonboard boxes. “There has been a change in perception of luxury in the USA,” he said. “People have changed from luxury packaging to standard packaging, and consumers expect to pay less for products. It’s not the same in Europe, where consumers are cost conscious, but not when it comes to luxury goods.”

The designs for bespoke rigid boxes are created by outside agencies. The latest order was from Lancôme for a round box that opens to expose a section containing the bottles and jars of creams on a platform. The platform is drawn out when the box is opened.
