Integrated solutions from a world leader

Flexibility and security are watchwords in manufacturing for Körber Medipak Group, which brings Rondo, Dividella and MediSeal together to form a world leading provider of pharma packaging systems using cutting edge technology

As a group, Körber Medipak is emphasising flexibility, reliability and an attractive price to performance ratio. “In addition to cutting edge technology, we place great emphasis on highly flexible construction and the greatest possible reliability when we design our machines,” says CEO Gerhard Breu.

“With our modular construction, we are able to meet the ever more demanding requirements of our customers in terms of change-over times, lot sizes and cleaning. At the same time our principle of modularity allows us to reduce systems’ life-cycle costs, as we can integrate additional modules into the overall line at any time.

“We can offer our customers innovative solutions to these requirements: the greatest possible flexibility, combined with guaranteed pharmaceutical security,” he adds.

MediSeal

The company formerly known as Klöckner Medipak has international operations which specialise in the development, design and manufacture of thermoforming, edge-seal sachet sealing machines, cartoning machines and complete packaging lines for the cosmetics and pharmaceutical industry. During more than 70 years, MediSeal has acquired outstanding know-how in the dosing and packaging of solids, powders and other paste products.

The key feature of all systems and solutions is always the stringent requirements for pharmaceutical safety, as well as leading edge technology and cost effectiveness.

For many years, MediSeal has concentrated on modern servo technology in its blister machine (thermoforming machine) division, guaranteeing a flexible yet economical system concept. In the area of edge-seal sachet and stick pack machines, MediSeal supplies machines which are acknowledged worldwide as the leaders for packaging pharmaceutical and cosmetic products in sachets: the machines package liquid and high viscosity products, powders, tissues, contoured sachets or sachets for magazine advertising. Flexible cartoning machines, which are offered either as stand-alone systems or in a line with blister machines, complete the range.

The product range is technologically integrated: future developments can always be incorporated into existing systems. MediSeal’s central concerns are always flexibility, reliability and economy.

A MediSeal LSC (late stage customisation) concept systematically exploits the modular structure of MediSeal’s machines and avoids having to permanently link the blister packaging, printing and cartoning subprocesses in the form of a line; in practice, it is simply a matter of linking them up according to requirements. As a result, serial processes can be run in parallel, from which can come savings in time and significant added flexibility.

The heart of the concept is a logistics module. The so-called BIB-BOB module takes the blister automatically from a packaging line (BIB mode) and stacks it neatly in a bulk magazine. These blisters can be fed back at a later time from the bulk magazine into the cartoning system (BOB mode).

Many simulations have shown that when LSC is implemented as a complementary measure, the overall efficiency of pharmaceutical packaging operations increases by up to 30% - depending on the spread of lot sizes, says the company.

Solutions from Dividella

The NeoTOP concept from Dividella includes the packaging solution in addition to the machine, so that many different types of product and presentation can be processed on one machine. The concept is suitable for the packaging of ampoules and vials, syringes and combination packs, as well as innovative devices such as pens and auto-injectors. With these TopLoad machines, Dividella demonstrates that small lot sizes, a high degree of flexibility and cost conscious packaging are not mutually exclusive.

Dividella also develops packaging solutions for blisters in the form of handy wallets and box wallets, together with the corresponding wallet machines required for the packaging.

Rondo

GMP certified Rondo AG, of Switzerland, specialises in innovative, secure packaging solutions for pharmaceutical products, with a wide range of standard and special folding boxes for packaging tablet blisters, vials, ampoules and tubes.
