Packaging Today China Supplement

Growing demand

In this special supplement, sponsored by Linx Printing Technologies, we highlight key beverage packaging trends in China.

This latest market intelligence has been extracted from the Canadean Beverage Packaging Service China Market Insights 2011 Cycle – a new 40-page report. It contains information and statistics on the beer and soft drinks sectors in China, along with insight on the rise and fall in market share of the various packaging types and sizes for these beverages, and the market reasons for the changes.

A couple of years ago, the global economic crisis made the Chinese Government realise that China could not rely completely on exports to stimulate GDP growth; domestic demand would be the momentum behind the country’s economic development.

The average income for both rural and urban households continues to grow, providing beverage companies with huge potential for consumption growth.

This report will help brand owners identify trends and gain a deeper understanding of the industry in China.

Also in this supplement, Dr Liz Wilks at Asia Pulp and Paper gives her view on China as a growing force in the paper packaging industry.

China was a net importer of packaging material, now it is a net exporter in a range of packaging. Growing internal demand is, she says, marching along at 9% and new equipment is being installed to meet the changing needs of the Chinese local market. The future impact on Europe is that China is quickly becoming the most important packaging market in the world and, therefore, will most likely be the source of a wide range of paper packaging products.
